On January 22, 1839, Governor Juan Alvarado granted Rancho San Francisco, including 48,815 square acres, to Antonio del Valle. Jacoba Felz later filed a claim against this grant, but it was dismissed on June 8, 1857. The Del Valle family chose Camulos as their home, and it later became known as the "Home of Ramona."
