Black Rock Mountain State Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains west of Mountain City, Georgia, is the state's highest park, set on the Eastern Continental Divide at 3,640 feet. Named for its dark biotite gneiss cliffs, it is known for sweeping views across the southern Appalachians into four states. Established in 1952 from land assembled by John V. Arrendale beginning in 1938, it later expanded through additional acquisitions. The park includes several peaks above 3,000 feet, forested ridges, streams, trails, camping areas, and Black Rock Lake. It remains a prominent north Georgia destination despite severe tornado damage in 2011.
