Hill Town Ferry, operated by Hiram Cory, was one of the first ferries to cross the Salinas River. The Monterey County Board of Supervisors regulated its tolls, which in 1877 were 25 cents for a buggy and horse, 37½ cents for a buggy and horses, 85 cents for four horses and wagon, $1 for six horses and wagon, 25 cents for a horse and saddle, and 12½ cents for a man on foot. The ferry operated until a bridge was built in 1889.
