The Joliet Iron Works and the local limestone quarries were once the backbone of the Joliet area economy and gave the city of Joliet the nickname "The City of Steel and Stone." Today, only ruins of the once bustling iron mill remain, recalling the people who lived and worked there and helped forge the city of Joliet.
