Crown Point Bridge is a covered bridge now standing at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Crown Point, Indiana, after beginning life as the Milroy or Shelbourne Covered Bridge over the Little Flatrock River south of Milroy in Rush County. Built in 1878 by Archibald M. Kennedy & Sons, it is a single-span Burr Arch Truss that preserves the work of an important Indiana bridge-building firm. When highway improvements made its original site obsolete in 1933, John Wheeler led its dismantling, transport, and re-erection in Crown Point. Its importance lies in its survival, linking Indiana’s timber bridge-building era with early preservation efforts.
