The Lions Club Clock Tower in Concordia, Missouri serves as a memorial to all past and present members of the Concordia Lions Club who served the community. The club was chartered on March 28, 1938, with sixteen members and had grown to seventy-three members in 1976, the nation’s bicentennial year. Its motto is Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation’s Safety, and its slogan is We Serve. The tower was given by the Concordia Lions Club to the people of Concordia, Missouri, and placed in the custody of their elected officials. Its clock, purchased by city merchants in 1884, had hung in the Bethel Evangelical Church tower until that building was razed in 1961. Its bell was used by the city fire department from 1898 to 1940 and now rings the clock’s hours. The structure preserves elements of Concordia’s past for future generations.
