John Fogleman, a native of Virginia, was in this area in 1816 and witnessed his sister's wedding in the St. Landry Courthouse. He married Polly Sandefur there on Jan. 1, 1819. On Nov. 28, 1853, the estate of the deceased John Fogleman was sold at a bid auction at his 184 acre plantation, which was purchased by P.L. Shaw, with one acre of the land reserved as a burying ground. The old Fogleman Cemetery at Holmesville includes the graves of Edwin Epps, 1867, and Mary Epps, 1868.
