Pyramid Ridge
Nature
Pyramid Ridge is a distinct high point in the Mayacamas Mountains of Mendocino County, rising to about 3,520 to 3,560 feet and standing prominently above surrounding terrain. Located within the South Cow Mountain OHV Recreation Area, it is crossed by Trail 19 and is accessible mainly by ATV or horseback; the area is also used for deer hunting. In 2016, informal side trails were slated for closure and restoration to reduce trespass onto nearby private property. Pyramid Ridge also served as a fire research site beginning in November 2005, when scientists studied treatments in dying knobcone pine stands through a series of controlled cutting and burning experiments.
