Trail of Death
History
3
About 800 Potawatomi Indians camped near here on See's Creek on Oct. 22, 1838, during a forced removal from northern Indiana to eastern Kansas. Two or three Indians were placed under guard. Their health was good, so no medicine was administered to them. Horses grazed in the woods, and Gen. Morgan, assistant superintendent of the emigration, gave notice that he would resign and return home.
