Revolutionary War chaplain and pioneer Baptist preacher Rev. Robert Stockton was born in Va. in 1743, submitted to believer's baptism in 1771, was captured by the British at Brandywine in 1777 and held prisoner for two years, came to this area in 1799, helped form the Strawberry and Green River Baptist Associations of which he was moderator, and died here in 1824.
