This stone guard house was built around 1891 to replace an earlier bed-bug-infested structure still standing about 300 feet west of the site. Located near the fort’s original main entrance, it housed guards and contained two metal holding cells. During the Theodore Roosevelt School era, the Bureau of Indian Affairs converted it into a power station and ice plant, with an electric generator inside and a fuel oil tank and water cooling tower out back.
