The Gateway Arch was dedicated to the People of the United States on May 25, 1968, during the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson, with the City of St. Louis, Missouri, and the United States Territorial Expansion Memorial Committee associated with the dedication. On May 28, 1987, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places and declared a National Historic Landmark.
