Old Milepost
Transportation
3
This rare highway milepost, a cast concrete obelisk approximately 2 feet tall and 10 inches square, dates from the early 1900s and bears L5 because it stood five miles from Lynchburg. In May 2003, it was moved from its original location on Route 130 to a new setting near the back of the museum building. Only two milestones of this era survive in Virginia. The other, known as L1, also in Amherst County, remains at its original site on Main Street and Golf Road in Madison Heights.
