Built west of Lewes, Delaware, in 1881, the Delaware Breakwater Range Rear Light helped guide ships around Cape Henlopen into sheltered water near the breakwater as the rear beacon in a paired range. The skeletal tower carried a third-order Fresnel lens, and the station included a keeper’s house, a concrete assistant keeper’s dwelling added in 1910, and landscaped grounds with ornamental gardens planted in 1901. Shifting changes at Cape Henlopen eventually made the range unsuitable, and the light was extinguished in 1918. Dismantled in 1919, the tower was reassembled in 1927 on Gasparilla Island, Florida, where it still stands as the Boca Grande Entrance Range Rear Light.
