Woodmanston, or the Le Conte Plantation, was a rice plantation established by John Eaton LeConte Sr. in Bull Town Swamp southwest of Riceboro, Georgia. Set in a backwater cypress swamp feeding the South Newport River and Sapelo Sound, the plantation house stood on a knoll above the tidal area. In the early 1970s, the grounds could still be traced by surviving hardwoods, flowering bushes, and two palms. A botanical garden created there by Louis LeConte, the founder’s son, gained international renown. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
