Harmony Baptist Church began as early as 1830 in a brush arbor and was formally organized in 1878 with Rev. H. C. Smart as its first pastor and W. H. Cone and R. H. Mixon as its first deacons. Charter member Sarah Gooding gave it the name Harmony Baptist Church, and it affiliated with the Savannah River Association. The sanctuary was built in 1880 on land donated by Josiah Loadholt.
