The National Teachers Hall of Fame, on the campus of Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas, honors exceptional American school teachers through a museum, a resource center, and annual awards. Founded in 1989 through a partnership of the university and local civic and school organizations, it began inducting five teachers each year in 1992 for outstanding dedication to children. It has grown to include 155 inductees from 37 states and the District of Columbia. It is also tied to the National Memorial to Fallen Educators, begun in 2013, dedicated in 2014, and formally designated by federal law in 2018, making Emporia a national center for honoring teachers.
