In 1882 Asa T. Peal and Abram Tice gave, out of “natural love and respect,” a half-acre of land at the Dipping Hole to Smithwick Creek Primitive Baptist Church for use as a baptizing place. The Baptismal House was built in 1892. It was segregated by gender, and participants changed into dry clothes there after being baptized in the creek. It was still utilized in the 1930’s, but was moved in 2000 because of flooding.
