Robert Brooke, First Lord of the Manor, was born in London in 1602 and died at Brooke Place in 1655. He was Commander of Charles County in 1650 and President of the Provincial Council and acting Governor of Maryland in 1652. The council met at De La Brooke in 1662, and the original manor house was destroyed in 1835.
