Installed by the Cuba City State Bank at 100 N. Main in 1953 to mark the bank's fiftieth anniversary, the Cuba City clock became a local landmark. It was one of the finest clock chimes available at the time, keeping correct time, chiming every quarter hour, and striking on the hour, with the full-hour chimes sounding sixteen times. Complaints from residents that the ringing kept them awake eventually led to the chimes being turned off. In 1978 the clock was removed from the bank and mounted on a pole at 100 N. Main. In 2011, American Bank removed it to install a sign at that location, and the clock was donated to the city. A clock committee formed in 2015 to repair the clock and return it to Main Street, and about $10,000 was raised through the generosity of organizations, businesses, and individuals to repair and maintain it. Restored to its original state with a new clock mechanism and chimes that ring every hour, the clock was installed on South Main St. on April 4, 2016. That location was chosen because the building next to the caboose had been a bank in 1907, operated as Cuba City State Bank from 1910 to 1928, and also served for many years as Cuba City's post office. The clock and caboose area are maintained by The City of Presidents Committee.
