Summersville Reservoir was constructed under the supervision of the United States Army Corps of Engineers Huntington District from 1960 to 1966. District engineers were Col. S. Malevich from 1959 to 1962, Col. H. W. Cochran from 1962 to 1965, Col. W. D. Falcn from 1965 to 1966, C. F. Little from 1960 to 1961, T. L. Chapman from 1961 to 1965, and T. C. Craig from 1965 to 1966. It was dedicated by Lyndon B. Johnson, President of the United States, on 3 September 1966.
