The Webster House

Originally erected in the public square in 1836, this building served as the local land office during Wisconsin’s territorial years. It was abandoned in 1840 and later moved to this site. From 1857 until his death in 1875, it was the home of noted musician Joseph Philbrick Webster, who wrote the famous Civil War camp song “Lorena” and the ever popular hymn “The Sweet By and By.”
