Ormond’s Flying Mile, used from 1904 to 1911, was the 1 mile midpoint of a 5 mile course beginning at Granada Blvd. and ending past Seabreeze Blvd. The first streamliner ran on the beach there, and the Baker electric “Torpedo Kid,” driven by W.J. Hastings, set a record for electric cars of just under a mile a minute.
