Fort Phil Kearny State Historic Site includes three components: the fort itself and the Fetterman and Wagon Box fight sites, both about five miles from the fort. The site is administered by the Wyoming State Parks and Historic Sites Department and supported by the Fort Phil Kearny/Bozeman Trail Association, with preservation and interpretation focused on many aspects of the place. The fight sites have interpretive trails that help visitors understand the dramatic history of Fort Phil Kearny. At the fort, an interpretive center presents exhibits on the fort’s mission, archaeology, and Native Americans, provides a video overview, distributes a site brochure, and offers books on the area’s history. A Civilian Conservation Corp cabin presents the living conditions of an officer or enlisted man, while signs around the fort and its outlying structures identify crucial landmarks, structures, personalities, and the short history of the post.
