The smaller adobe outbuilding was constructed by Granville Wheat and appears on an 1869 army map of Florence. Its flat earthen roof was replaced with a rare mono-pitched waterproof metal roof, while the original door and wood frame remain. Wheat, a Butterfield Stage driver, came to Florence in 1868, was listed as a farmer in the 1870 census, served as the first elected sheriff of Pima County, and was an early Pinal County Supervisor. The building may have served as an ice house when George A. Brown owned it later.
