At 326 East Mitchell, The Pop Corn King opened in 1913, and Meryl Leach was Petoskey's pop corn king for nearly fifty years; a second-floor family residence was added later. Next door at 328 East Mitchell, grocery stores occupied the building until 1935, followed by McCune's City News Stand and later Kositchek's City News and Mundhenk Jewelry. In 1962, Karl Buettner and Burt Chickering bought the 326 site and opened the Clothes Post, then later purchased 328 to expand the business, connecting the two buildings with a hole in the wall. John Jorgensen purchased the business in 1975 and later the building in 1981, and Jeff Pagel purchased the business in 1999. The Clothes Post has operated at this address for more than fifty years.
