Barnes Reserve Cemetery
History
6
Barnes Reserve Cemetery is the final resting place for many early settlers of Madison. Founded in 1874, it was used until early 1900. Those buried here include Madison’s founder, Henry Mitchell Barnes, first generation Americans, Civil War veterans, pioneers, and many children who did not survive to adulthood because of primitive medical care. The cemetery reflects the sacrifices and hardships endured by people of all walks of life during the pioneer days of Madison.
