The Lt. William Haswell House was built on the site of the Old Hunt Estate. The site was associated with Susanna Haswell Rowson, daughter, an early women's rights advocate, actress, poet, educator, novelist, and author of Charlotte Temple, and with Robert Haswell, son, an officer on the Columbia, the first U.S. ship to circumnavigate the globe, who was also a lieutenant on the U.S. frigate Boston. It was formerly the site of the first parsonage in the Village of Hull, c.1650.
