The trestle that crossed Tiburon Boulevard stood as a landmark for 84 years until it was torn down in 1968, a year after the last train passed over its sturdy wooden framework; a photograph from the 1930s shows it, and the berm on the south end can still be seen. For 28 years, travel to and from Belvedere or Tiburon commonly meant passing Blackie, a swaybacked horse grazing in his pasture. A former cavalry horse that later worked as a cutting horse at rodeos in Salinas and appeared in the California rodeo, Blackie retired at age 12 to a private pasture at the corner of Tiburon Boulevard and Trestle Glen Road. His owner, Anthony Connell, visited him daily, and people of all ages often fed him carrots, sugar, and hay until his death in 1966.
