The Worth/Jefferis Rural Historic District preserves a Chester County agricultural landscape that reflects the county's early 18th century settlement era. Covering approximately 1,800 acres between the east and west branches of Brandywine Creek, it includes farms with stone and frame barns representative of Pennsylvania Barn architecture that originated in Chester County. Much of the land was owned by the Worth, Jefferis, Carter, and Seeds families for more than 150 years. Over the last 300 years, the farms and fields evolved from grain growing to beef cattle, then dairy production, and more recently to raising horses and cultivating mushroom hay. Most of the district's farmland has been preserved, and the Stroud Preserve, historically known as Georgia Farm, includes a house built by Thomas Worth circa 1740 and is open to the public as a nature preserve.
