Mount Delano
Nature
Mount Delano is a 10,159-foot peak in southern Montana's northern Absaroka Range, within the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and Gallatin National Forest near Livingston and the route to Yellowstone National Park. It is distinguished by dramatic local relief, rising thousands of feet above nearby creek forks and the Yellowstone River over short distances, with runoff feeding Deep Creek and ultimately the Yellowstone. Named for Columbus Delano, Secretary of the Interior under Ulysses S. Grant, the mountain has borne that name in print since at least 1873 and reflects Delano's association with the establishment of Yellowstone. It remains part of a protected wilderness landscape in the greater Yellowstone region.
