In Pineville, Louisiana, this protected historic area preserves two Civil War-era earthwork forts, Fort Randolph and Fort Buhlow, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It also contains the remains of Bailey's Dam, which played a decisive role in the Union retreat after the Battle of Mansfield by helping Admiral David Porter's fleet pass below the rapids on the Red River. Tied to one of the most noted episodes of the Red River campaign, the site brings together surviving fortifications and related features that highlight the military history of central Louisiana and events along the Red River.
