The Barker is the last of four hotels to occupy this site. The Roseville Hotel first occupied it in 1870, was later sold for six wagons and a mule, and was replaced by Ross House in 1891 and the Western Hotel in 1899. The Barker Hotel and Bar opened in 1911 and have operated continuously since then. Roseville's first police station, first bus line, first taxi stand, and the popular Barker Grill were also located here.
