George Washington visited Kingston on November 16, 1782, where he was received by the Trustees of the freeholders and Commonalty of the Town and the Consistory of this church. Those associated with his reception included George J.L. Doll, D.D., Dominie; Levi Pawling; Andries De Witt; Abraham Klaarwater; Philip Hooghteyling; and the elders and deacons. On November 16, 1932, the people of Kingston marked the one hundred ninety-third anniversary of that visit during the Washington Bicentennial, with Franklin Delano Roosevelt serving as Governor of New York, Lucas Boeve as Dominie of the Church, Eugene Bernard Carey as Mayor of Kingston, and Alphonso Trumpbour Clearwater as chairman of the Washington Bicentennial Celebration Committee.
