American Museum of Western Art – The Anschutz Collection
Arts & Culture
The American Museum of Western Art – The Anschutz Collection in Denver, Colorado, opened in 2010 as the permanent home of a collection built over more than 50 years by the Anschutz family, especially Philip Anschutz. Once private, it presents a broad history of art of the American West from the early 19th century to the present. Its holdings range from expeditionary painting and Hudson River School and Rocky Mountain School landscapes to narrative painting, modernism, Cubism, Regionalism, New Deal art, and Abstract Expressionism. By bringing these varied traditions together, the museum presents the West as an evolving subject in American art rather than a single style or period.
