Salinas Peak is the highest point in the San Andres Mountains of south-central New Mexico, near the range’s northern end between the Tularosa Basin and the Jornada del Muerto. Rising about 4,900 feet above the surrounding basins, it is notable for strong local relief and for its geology as a northwest-tilted fault block with a steep southeastern escarpment and deeply incised canyons on its north and south sides. Located within White Sands Missile Range, it is closed to the public. A road, radio towers, and a heliport reach the summit area, while the surrounding landscape still retains much of its wilderness character and wildlife.
