Laurel Mountain
Nature
Laurel Mountain is an 11,818-foot peak in Mono County, California, in the Sherwin Range of the Sierra Nevada, within Inyo National Forest and the John Muir Wilderness. Beyond its height, it is significant for geology: the mountain is largely made of metamorphic rock created when an intruding pluton altered surrounding rock in the late Cretaceous. Its summit preserves evidence of the deep geologic processes that shaped this part of the Sierra Nevada.
