Graceland, a Colonial Revival mansion in Memphis built in 1939, became Elvis Presley's home after he bought the former Graceland Farms estate in 1957 seeking privacy from growing public attention. Set in Whitehaven, it remained his principal residence, a deeply personal family center, and the site of famous interior spaces such as the Jungle Room. Presley died there in 1977 and was buried on the grounds, where several family members are also interred. Opened as a house museum in 1982, Graceland became one of the United States' most visited homes and gained national historic recognition for its unprecedented significance in rock music history.
