L.B. Spencer Drug Co., also known as Spencer Drug, was established in 1890 and opened at 104 North Main. In 1902, R.B. Spencer, son of L.B. Spencer, purchased the Robinson Hotel on this site to build a new drug store. The hotel was demolished beginning in 1907, and the new drug store was completed soon afterward. After the new building was destroyed in the fire of 1928, the business was forced back into 104 North Main Street. Stokes-Williams Hardware then occupied this site until 1973, when Franklin D. Yancey bought it and returned the business to its current location. The second story later housed a manufacturing business that produced tennis clothes for stars such as Chris Everett, and in 1979 the second floor became Sullivan's Tavern, established by Robert C. Sullivan and Robert (Bobby) Wells.
