Shuckstack is a 4,020-foot mountain in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, rising about 2,300 feet above Fontana Lake and known for the historic fire tower on its summit. Reached from near Fontana Dam by the Appalachian Trail and a short spur, it is a relatively short but strenuous climb because of its rapid elevation gain. At the top are the unused yet accessible tower and the remains of a former fire watchman’s cabin, including its chimney, foundation, and cistern, along with Precambrian Ocoee Supergroup sandstone outcrops. Its significance comes from this preserved lookout site and its sweeping views across the western Smokies.
