Liberty Hill Methodist Church was founded in 1854, 1.5 miles northwest of here. Construction of a three-story building of native stone for use by the church, school, and Masonic lodge began in 1870 on land given by T. S. Snyder. The upper stories were removed and choir space was added in 1905, wings were added in 1916, and a vestibule was added in 1954 with a memorial window honoring founders John T. and Amelia Bryson, Huldah Bryson, and Anthony and Amanda Smith.
