Ski Bluewood is a small alpine ski resort in southeastern Washington’s Blue Mountains, developed as Skyline Basin in the 1970s and opened in January 1980 as Bluewood Ski Area after years of planning and fundraising. Its early years were marked by little snow and bankruptcy, but in 1983 Stan Goodell bought and renamed it Ski Bluewood, distancing it from those troubles. An expansion in 1986 added parking and a new chairlift. Known for dry powder, tree skiing, and family-friendly character, it has twenty-four named runs and an unusually remote, self-sufficient operation that has made it a distinctive part of regional ski culture.
