Elvis Presley booked one of his first Texas shows at the Mint Club in Gladewater on November 22, 1954, with the assistance of KSIJ DJ Tom Perryman. He continued to book shows throughout East Texas while staying with the Perryman family in Gladewater. Perryman was also instrumental in bringing other major music acts to the area, including Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash, Faron Young, Hankshaw Hawkins, and Ray Price. Throughout the 1950's, Gladewater had a major influence on the music scene.
