Established in 1861, this powder mill produced cannon powder for the Confederate Army until 1863, when an explosion destroyed the mill and killed employees William Bloecher, Adolph Hillegeist, and Peter Wunderlich. The site was later donated by Mrs. E.G. Hillegeist and her sons, Earl and Roy Hillegeist.
