The Mississippi Carillon stands in symbolic repose to honor the nation’s heroes who lie beneath this sacred earth. Its steel represents the strength and resolve of those who defend the nation, and its bell represents the liberty and freedom enjoyed by all. The bell is held aloft by five steel pillars rising from its foundation, reflecting the five military services—the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard—as the foundation and protectors of the freedom and liberty Americans enjoy and cherish. On this hallowed ground and throughout the United States of America, freedom and liberty ring true.
