Built in 1899 under Etowah County commissioner Jesse Gilliland, the Gilliland-Reese Covered Bridge originally crossed Little Wills Creek near Reece City and served both as a working roadway bridge and a local gathering place. Its second name refers to Reece City, not a Reese family. After the route was replaced in the 1920s and Interstate 59 later threatened the structure, Judge H. Ross Gilliland’s family donated it to the City of Gadsden in 1966. Moved to Noccalula Falls Park and restored in 1967, it lost much of its original Town Lattice truss but still preserves a rare surviving link to the Gilliland Plantation and local transportation history.
