Surveyors originally used this brass range marker, which stood on the old Iosco County Courthouse in the 1800's. M.C. Harting passed the stake on his daily path to the courthouse by his abstract office for over 50 years. The stake and its concrete base survived construction of the new county building and the jail in the 1950's, but during expansion of the jail in 1986 it was yanked from the ground, destroying its surveying value.
