Calvert Vaux, a celebrated landscape architect and associate of Frederick Law Olmsted, designed Hillside Cemetery in 1861. Hillside Cemetery has been designated a significant historic site by the United States Department of the Interior and entered on the National Register of Historic Places in December 1994.
