Chanticleer Garden is a 48-acre botanical garden in Wayne, Pennsylvania, created from the former Rosengarten estate on Philadelphia’s Main Line. Begun in 1912 as a summer home for Christine Penrose and Adolph G. Rosengarten Sr., the property was later directed toward public use by Adolph G. Rosengarten Jr., who established a foundation after inheriting it in 1946. Open to the public since 1993, it retains a residential scale of lawns, mature trees, and garden rooms while presenting a sequence of distinct landscapes. Shaped significantly by horticulturist Christopher Woods, Chanticleer became known for inventive design, including The Ruin and varied spaces for walking, relaxation, and seasonal display.
