Chik Wauk Lodge stands above Saganaga Lake near the northern end of the Gunflint Trail in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters region. Built in 1933 by Swedish immigrant Edwin Nunstedt during a tourism boom, it served as the hub of a family-run resort, housing a store, office, restaurant, and lounge for guests in nearby cabins. The rustic rough-cut stone building remained largely unchanged as the area evolved from logging and mining ambitions to a recreation economy. After resort operations ended in 1978 and federal control followed, it was recognized in 2007 for representing the family-owned fishing resorts that once flourished here and has operated as a museum and nature center since 2010.
